Colin Meloy Debuts Two New Decemberists Songs
Singer-songwriter Colin Meloy of The Decemberists stopped by WFUV’s Studio A to play a few acoustic renditions of songs from band’s upcoming album The King Is Dead, and we’re excited to share them with you.

“I thought [recording] would be a lot shorter,” Meloy said of the new album’s recording process. “This was simple. Hazards was very cerebral… academic. That felt very time-consuming, and this one was just as hard. It just goes to show you that no music is easy.”
The King Is Dead, which we’ll get our ears on next month, was recorded in a barn in Portland, Oregon, which proved far more difficult than they’d romanticized about when planning the project. “It rained on us a lot. It was a very rainy May, with no heat or indoor plumbing. It wasn’t luxurious in any sense.”
Our first official taste of the album was the album version of Down By The Water, which you can hear right here.
Head over to Some Kind Of Awesome for the studio version of January Hymn, as well as a cover of The Grateful Dead’s Row Jimmy.
