News:  Girl Talk

Deconstructing Girl Talk’s Sample Hurricane

By Steven Anthony

After  Greg Gillis aka Girl Talk dropped his new album All Day earlier this week (free download here), a site named All Day Samples was quick to pop up. Created by Travis McLeskey, the site is simple in design but does its job incredibly well. While streaming the album on the site, every sample present in each song is listed so the listener won’t be left wondering what the fuck they’re hearing.

Whether it’s a hybrid of Black Sabbath and Tupac, Portishead mixed with Naughty By Nature and Big Boi or an unholy blend of Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam mixed with Cream and Notorious B.I.G., now Girl Talk fans will have no problem knowing just what’s going on during marathon listening sessions of All Day. The site plays through the entire album with pop-up text boxes that list the samples as they occur.

If you want a less interactive way of knowing what’s going on, Girl Talk himself has posted an entire list of samples used on the new record. Once you’ve made your way through All Day, you can click on over to FeedTheAnimalsSamples.Com, which gives the same treatment to Girl Talk’s last album.
