News:  Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire Adds Ultraviolence To Your Nostalgia In New Video

By Fernando Scoczynski Filho

We’ve talked about Arcade Fire very recently here, thanks to their great performances on last week’s SNL, but the band just earned themselves another mention.

A video accompaniment to the song The Suburbs was released yesterday. The title track from their fantastic album was in fact the first single off of it – a bit odd to make a video now, but we’re not complaining, given the great capture of youth nostalgia at hand. Sure, there’s the whole SWAT-team beatdown and dark, jarring fast food joint ending, but we’ve all been there.  Watch it below:

The video was directed by the veteran Spike Jonze, and it looks rather beautiful, so we won’t ask too many questions. Meanwhile, you can expect to see The Suburbs (the album) making it to a lot of best-of-2010 lists in the next month.

I kind of think I understand it. It’s very relevant to the current situation in this nation of petrified retards– especially in light of the new airport rapings.

I was just thinking the other day about how many paranoid shit-kicking morons who wear badges have hassled me since 2001.
I think I wrote about the moron who searched me and my car in northern California during a speeding ticket rape because I “looked nervous” here already. There was also an incident in Missouri during 2003 in which I was just reading a book in the backseat of my car while I waited for a train. The station was one mile down the street, so I was stopped at a row of stores and left the engine on because it was very cold outside. After an hour or so a pig tapped on the window and questioned me like I was a criminal.
He said, “people have been calling about this. They think it looks suspicious.”
    Really? I mean… fucking REALLY?
And that’s what I think of when I watch this… the ongoing rape of the citizenry of this once-great country and the desecration of the Fourth Amendment with the excuse of “81% believe that it’s A-OK” (according to a recent poll about the TSA).

    “Sometimes I can’t believe it.”

Childhood nostalgia to the utmost!!!!! I wish I was a kid again where the only thing I worried about was trying not to get in late from playing with my friends.

    Hey Johnny,

Totally off topic, I’m listening to a Jay Z remix of 99 Problems done by The Prodigy. You might wanna check it out! Sweet remix!

Oh yeah, real nostalgic. ‘Cause as a kid, I always use to live in a police state, ride my bike around with a pellet gun strapped across my back, and get beat up by my psychotic friends at work. Happened all the time.
That video is disturbing. In a good way, though.

Exactly. Why do people NOT see this? I’m amazed by how many people here and on Youtube think that it’s some sort of normal portrayal of our youths. In fact, it’s a statement about our diminishing freedoms, paranoia, and new militaristic attitudes.
It’s just stunningly brilliant, in my opinion.
One of the most meaningful yet subtle moments is when the girl is trying to flag down the SWAT/military van as the guy whose hair was sheered for military school beats his friend, and it drives past her– totally unhelpful for a real emergency.
