News:  Kanye West

Kanye Refuses To Let Us Shut Up About Him

By Skwerl

Tonight, Kanye West unveiled an ambitious 35 minute short film entitled Runaway, featuring music from his forthcoming album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

We just posted a great documentary that articulated the difference between the kind of artistic expression that comes from the creatively driven and inspired, and the more mainstream product designed to bring fame and a sustainable bottom line. One of the great things it asserts is that commercial success should, yet rarely does enable an artist to follow his or her creative whims without fear of failure.

Love or hate Kanye West, he’s enough of an asshole to ignore the expectations that come with the praise and profits. He’s the exception to the rule, and as he follows his vision through a passionate, prolific burst of expression, we find ourselves cheering him on as one of today’s few truly fearless visionaries, alongside ol’ Trent and Josh and Jack.

The Runaway film was created by Kanye and Hype Williams. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is available for pre-order on iTunes here. It appears that the ah… indecent George Condo cover art has been censored for retail in some cases, and replaced by a less controversial Condo piece in others.

  1. In other news, the SF Giants are going to the World Series. Let’s talk about true talent from a bunch of misfits who (minus Sanchez) are not a bunch of giant D-bags with sand burried deep in the vagina.

That was fantastic! Initially I was doubting that I would even want to attempt to set aside 30minutes for this character but I must admit it was compelling. I especially enjoyed the distroted autotuned voice and found the use of Aphex Twins piano from Drukqs delightful. Visually and musically it’s awesome and to top it off Selita Ebanks is fucking hot. Now if only he would shut the fuck up about everything else.

“I sent her a picture of my dick”…hehe.

The lyrics are absurd but I almost want to like some of the music. I wish he went Trent Reznor with this and didn’t record any vocals like Ghosts…

This is like a modern day version of “Estranged”. Kanye is a modern Axl Rose. I tried to like it but the whole thing was so contrived. It feels like somebody incapable of making art attempting to make art anyways…

    That’s just my opinion…

  4. Some of this music is actually pretty good – up until Kanye’s mouth starts spewing nonsense.
