Listen To Tricky’s New Album ‘Mixed Race’

By Johnny Firecloud

Tricky is set to release new album Mixed Race a week from today, but fans can hear the album streaming in its entirety now on NME.

Mixed Race is the ninth studio album by Bristolian rapper/producer Tricky, and sees the gravel-rasp voice stepping up his game considerably. Check out the video for Murder Weapon, a mean little track that’s actually a cover of a classic dancehall hit from Jamaican-born Echo Minott, originally released in the early ’90s:

In Tricky’s own words: “The album’s called Mixed Race because being mixed race is the single biggest influence on my music. You sat down at the table in my house and you saw every colour. It’s made me much more open-minded than I could’ve been. I come from both worlds.”

That’s a great track and video there. I think that would make a great James Bond movie intro song.

can you really hear this on nme in a good bit rate?

Pre Millennium Tension > Mixed Race > Juxtapose > Knowles West

Can we get Le Noise soon please?

Ya know I actually like this site when you review worthwhile music.

On another note, I think this album typifies why bands that pursue singles suck. This album is solid. The worst song is Murder Weapon. Probably why Teargarden blows Fireclouds Skwerl

not really feeling this, but i’ll give it a few more listens before talking shit.
      but knee-jerk first impression is:
pre-millenium tension > knowle west > mixed race

i like asshole commenters when they say something constructive. johnny’s working on le noise for you.

One word: maxinquaye. New girl voice doesn’t hold a candle to Martina’s.
