News: Nine Inch Nails
NIN’s Year Zero Coming To HBO
When Nine Inch Nails released their high-concept, anti-Dubya album Year Zero in 2007, frontman Trent Reznor fueled the fire with ideas about how its story arc would further unfold. The album, backed by a very rich Alternate Reality Game (or “publicity stunt”, as some prefer), was rumored for a long time to have a sequel coming in the form of a TV series. Now, we finally have definitive confirmation.
In an interview with the LA Times, mastermind Trent Reznor said that he is “in pre-production with HBO and BBC America to do a miniseries.” The show is to be produced by Lawrence Bender (who produced Quentin Tarantino films like Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and the recent Inglourious Basterds) and Kevin Kelly Brown (executive producer of the sci-fi show Roswell). As for writing duties, Daniel Knauf, mastermind behind the HBO series Carnivàle, was hired.
However, Trent was cautious as to not get NIN fans too excited at the moment, explaining, “I probably shouldn’t say too much about it except that I understand that there’s a thousand hurdles before anything shows up in your TV listing. It’s been an interesting and very educational process and it cleared the HBO hurdle a few months ago and now we’re writing drafts back and forth. So it’s very much alive and incubating at the moment.” He made his point even clearer by saying that TV development “moves at a glacial pace.”
Regardless of the long time this will surely take to get made, it’s most certainly happening. Given the recent surge of pretty-awesome HBO shows (Boardwalk Empire, anyone?), we’re keeping our expectations relatively high.
In other Reznor-related news, the soundtrack for the movie The Social Network that he created with Atticus Ross is available now on Amazon, for 3 bucks.

It’s been 3 years since Year Zero and I thought Reznor had given up on the whole idea. I’m so glad that they’re finally doing something with it. HBO is the perfect place too, heres hoping it kicks ass.
Year Zero…to me was the best of 4 records NIN put out after their return in ’05.
I like Pat assumed the idea was dead in the water years ago…and am very excited to see what comes of this.
Carnivale was an awesome show, even if it did get cut short. I’m curious to see what that guy can do with Trent’s vision. And you just know this is gonna be gone over with a fine-toothed-comb and judged pretty harshly if it sucks, so I’m sure they’ve got that in mind and aren’t about to let anyone(but the fanboys, who never seem to be happy) down. I hope it delivers everything we’ve come to expect from Trent and then some. God knows TV pretty much sucks right now and we could use something cool…….
The only idea that’s dead is the Ghosts Film Festival. Lots of people are still sad over that.
Nah Ghosts will make a resurgence, and itll probably end up being another 3 years down the road.
As for this, this is kick ass
Awesome! Fingers crossed it gets down!
