A Perfect Circle Head Back To Work
By Johnny Firecloud
Monday, September 13, 2010
The wait is nearly over. You heard it here first: the side project that became a full band, a Frankenstein of Rock greatness in the early 2000’s, A Perfect Circle have returned from their self-imposed hiatus with some exciting new plans, as promised. The band, led by Maynard James Keenan (Tool, Puscifer) and Billy Howerdel (Ashes Divide), will embark on a five-city tour this fall. Dates and ticket on-sale information will be announced shortly, so keep your eyes peeled.
It pays to live on the desert side of the country. Shows in Phoenix (Marquee Theatre), Los Angeles (Avalon), Seattle (Showbox at The Market) and San Francisco (The Fillmore) will be three-night stops with each night featuring one of A Perfect Circle’s three albums in its entirety (Mer De Noms, Thirteenth Step and the hotly contested “album” eMOTIVe). Las Vegas (The Pearl) will be a two-night outing for the band, who will play both Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step in their entirety.
The new Perfect Circle lineup is as follows: Maynard Keenan, Billy Howerdel, Josh Freese, James Iha and Matt McJunkins (Ashes Divide / Puscifer). They’re scheduled to make their televised return with a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Oct. 27.
A Perfect Circle have sold four million records in the U.S., which means they’re an unparalleled force of total market domination in the industry. Just kidding – but theirs is an inspired collection of musical chemistry that we’re thrilled to see returning. After the band announced their indefinite hiatus in 2005, Keenan returned his focus to Tool, also launching the multimedia project Puscifer and further developing his burgeoning Arizona vineyards. Howerdel went on to form Ashes Divide, who released their debut album, Keep Telling Myself It’s Alright, in 2008.
No, this doesn’t mean the end of Tool. What it means is that we’ll once again be able to witness a stellar collection of musicians taking some hard left turns for the sake of making hot musical monkey love.
Here’s a little sonic refresher course.

I feel bad for the suckers that end up with tickets to eMOTIVe night.
HAHAH.true
HAH!
Hell yes!!! Seattle!!!
Another reason to hate the folks on the West Coast.
While I wouldn’t want to ONLY see the eMotive show, I would definitely want to catch it just for the rarity of the performance.
best news ive hear all year. a perfect circle is the only band i need to see live to see the maynard trifecta. (Puscifer, Tool, APC.)

Not thrilled about James Iha, but if he sticks to contributing a few fuzzy guitar leads and nothing frosted or milk shaky, it shouldn’t end up too bad.
Not thrilled? He did just fine the two shows on the 13th Step tour.
His stage presence, despite him being capable enough to play his parts, is completely lackluster, his two remixes on Amotion were the worst ones on the cd, the one song he had anything to do with on Emotive is the only one I completely refuse to listen to, and he sang a Backstreet Boys song.
I’m sure the east coast won’t be ignored. Or at least, I’m sure they INTEND on not ignoring the east coast. Hope they can make it out here to Philly. Hope it’s not eMotive.
Sometimes I want to kick MJK in the nuts for releasing one album every million years. And NO, that doesn’t make them “more special”, fuck you! …….. Thank you, I feel releived now.
Alright, relieved.
Yessssssssssssssssssss. And here I thought Maynard hated the Bay Area. Sure talks crap when he’s here…maybe it’s just his personality.

I understand where the guy who hates how long his albums take is coming from. However, I’d rather have great music in long time periods than bad music quickly.
Excited to say the least. Love the last name of the new guy, McJunkins.

DAMNIT to hell. Tool ignores the east coast on their summer mini 2010 tour and now this. I thought you you wanted to watch it all come down (LA) California?
