News: Queens Of The Stone Age
Watch Josh Homme Give A Tour Of His Recording Studio
It’s been a good half hour or so since we’ve posted anything related to Queens Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures or otherwise, so we thought we’d drop a nice little Thursday nugget on you to fix those DTs.
The following video from Dazed & Confused Magazine features QOTSA/TCV mastermind Josh Homme giving D&C music editor Tim Noakes a tour of Pink Duck, the L.A. recording studio where Homme and friends make magic for the private parts in your ears:
To the sounds of Queens we’re taken from mixing board and kitchen introductions into the music room, adorned with Christmas lights, a myriad of instruments and paintings by Homme’s grandmother. We’re introduced to the legendary Fun Machine, and taken through the story of how Feel Good Hit Of The Summer came to be. London Bridge Is Falling Down is played on a tiny, tiny piano.
“It’s kind of like a brothel in Western times,” Josh explains.
Pay close attention to the fish and fisherman analogy at the very end of the clip – there’s a pretty clear message there for a certain former bandmate.
Last Thursday, Queens Of The Stone Age made an amazing return to the stage in the U.S. for the first time in two years, alongside Eagles Of Death Metal, Alain Johannes and two adorably well-dressed Arctic Monkeys. They’re heading out to Europe for a string of shows to tie off the month, and are then expected to announce a full-scale tour that’ll (hopefully) put them in range for you to see. We strongly advise you to take advantage of the opportunity.
Keep an eye on QOTSA.com for more info.

The dude needs more guitars, he doesn’t have enough of them… Ha.
He has a pretty cool set-up out there. I am surprised how many rooms there were and how big the studio looks. I guess there is a lot of land to fill out in the desert.
That show in LA was amazing. For those of you that don’t already know, Mark Lanegan joined them on stage to finish the set.
Thanks for the video Johnny.
No problem – breaks my heart that we didn’t put up a review of the show, but with Outside Lands happening right after it got lost in the mix of events.
That studio isn’t in the desert Shane, it’s in Burbank.
I didn’t want to be the one to point that out. Shane’s too nice to correct.
Oops… All good, I hear Josh lives in Palm Springs, so I assumed this was the studio where they do the Desert Sessions, etc. Especially with all the desert references in the video.
Though, to be fair… Burbank was a desert until man came and watered all the plants. Ha.
Dude actually lives right up the street from me. And I’d agree with you on Burbank, if it weren’t for the fact that there’s maybe three total plants in that ocean of cement :P
Ya those studios are apparently about 2 miles from where I work. It makes me happy to be in such close proximity to awesomeness every single day.
Thanks for that!
