News:  Daft Punk

Daft Punk Revs Our Lightcycles

By Steven Anthony

Ever since Disney revealed that Daft Punk was set to score the upcoming Tron film, fans of the French robotic duo have been clamoring for a taste, a slight glimpse of what they would bring to the film. We may, or may not (but probably do), have that taste for you right here.

The last week has been a giant clusterfuck for this film’s score. First, 6 or so more “standard” orchestral tracks leaked, and then another handful of what appear to be much more Daft Punk-y tracks leaked. There are sites claiming that both leaks are fake, some sites claiming that both are real. Few of the preachers truly know what the hell they’re rambling on about, apart from the tracks that are streaming on the official Tron website, which you can get your ears all up in below thanks to Some Kind Of Awesome:

The decisively more Daft Punk-ish tracks were posted on YouTube last week. They sound like the instrumental portions of the duo’s 2001 album Discovery, which leads us to at least want to believe that they, are, in fact the real deal. According to representatives for the band, the tracks that purport to be leaked songs from the soundtrack album are fake, but they just sound too convincing for us to totally buy it.

With the right equipment (and time), your average wannabe techno producer could pull off a fairly convincing attempt at Daft Punk, but these are so much better than the previous leaks. Only time will tell, but for now, here’s a couple for you to listen to.

The first, simply titled Scene 3 – Intro sounds like Daft Punk is getting their robot pimp walk on. Or you know, like if you were at a stop light, Daft Punk would probably drive up next to you in a Cadillac and this would be blaring from the speakers.

The other track we are going to share with you is called (at least temporarily,) Scene 728-1052. It is highly reminiscent at times of Voyager from Discovery and is probably our pick for best of the “leaks” so far.

So, Daft Punk, or techno people who want to convince people you are Daft Punk – great fucking job. Keep the sweet robotic tunes flowing, please.

Scene 3 was heard at the Tron Comic-Con booth. So either its an extremely well made re-creation, or the real deal. You decide.

    • I sincerely hope they are real, as noted in this article. Rumor has it that some of the other leaks (like the second one in this post) may have been tracks that Daft Punk leaked themselves after Disney rejected them. No one really knows, but here’s to another round of great electronica.

my favorite has got to be Scene 505-1436 (Ending). that haunting buildup that turns into a futuristic disco track gets me everytime.

welcome to about 2 weeks ago when 1077 Then End leaked the top tracks. And aside from “scene 3″ which as someone said is a recreation the rest in that batch were fakes as confirmed by dafts management. way to be on top of your reporting
