Fugazi fans, there’s good news and bad news. Although the band has been on hiatus since 2002 and there’s no hope in the immediate future of a return from it for Ian MacKaye, Guy Picciotto, Joe Lally and Brendan Canty, if you’ve ever been a fan of Fugazi or attended one of their live shows, they have a treat in store for you.
At least 15 years of live punk show footage (1987-2002) is being diligently converted into a digital archive available to all, with the first group of shows tentatively set to release later this year or early next year.
According to Guy Picciotto in part of a statement made to World Of Fugazi site visitorsĀ on July 15th, “We are not that far away from being able to set up our own website where ultimately almost every show we ever played will be available for download. The infrastucture for this new website is currently being developed and the band continues to sift through and convert the footage from its enormous live archive. There will be an official announcement on Dischord.com later in the year with more details when things get closer to completion.”
Fugazi got their start in Washington, D.C. Added to having one of the most energetic live punk shows ever, they have a hands-on do-it-yourself ethic when it comes to the business end of music production. Here’s to hoping that digging through all of the live footage inspires them to head back to the studios at Dischord Records.

I remember gutter punks back home crying when Fugazi raised the ticket price from $5 – $7 bucks. Still seemed like a fair price to me. Nice read :)

Hells yeah! Love Fugazi but have never seen them live, only heard great things!
I suppose this will have to cover for never having seen them live. Very cool idea.
