As you may have heard, thrash metal’s “Big Four” bands, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax are headlining the 2010 touring Sonisphere Fesitivals currently making their way across Europe. We just got word from our buddy Sami at the Rock It Out! Blog that something particularly amazing happened at the Sofia, Bulgaria stop last night. All four bands, one stage, one song.

Yep, Dave Mustaine performing with Metallica for the first time since 1983, taking turns singing with Hetfield and Joey Belladonna, backed by the godfathers of thrash, performing Diamond Head’s Am I Evil. Wow.

In an interesting stunt, the show was broadcast live to movie theater audiences all over the globe, and it will soon be released on DVD. In the meantime, there are, of course, a bunch of bootleg clips on YouTube already. Here’s one of the better ones:

UPDATE: Awww… Video removed? Well, here’s a DVD quality version.

Where is Kerry King,Tom Araya, and Dave Lombardo? Anthrax shouldn’t be apart of this with their revolving singers. 3 singers in two years and the best one tells them to take a hike. Testament should be in that spot!

That was cool. Too bad they didn’t finish the song. Woulda been great to see a lead guitar duel between Hammett and Mustaine.

I think Lombardo is on Lars’ right, wearing a hat, and you can see Araya give Hetfield a hug at the end, but I do not see Kerry or Hanneman anywhere. It’s cool to see Joey Belladonna back with Anthrax. Almost didn’t recognize Frankie Bello.

King definitely is seen near the end hugging James. Hanneman walks buy in front of Mustaine at about the same time. i think King is the only i couldn’t see. it looks like Lombardo was the only one that participated in any way during the song, though.
