Earlier this week, the newly reunited grunge deity known as Soundgarden announced plans to re-release their Sub Pop debut 7″ on orange vinyl in honor of the third annual record store day. If you’d like to grab yourself a copy of the Hunted Down / Nothing To Say reissue, head here to find a participating store.

In more eyebrow-raising related news, the band has also released a live recording of Spoonman recorded in San Diego’s Del Mar Fairgrounds on 11/30/96. They recorded all of the shows on this west coast run on 2″ tape, with plans to someday release a live album. Apparently, they have finally gotten around to mixing them down, and while they haven’t explicitly promised anything, it sure seems like this live album is on the way at long last.

It is time for a grunge revival.

A live album is probably the least exciting thing they could do. But I’m admittedly excited.

Gutted to hear it could be a live album,
we want new material, we’ve been waiting long enough!

Im sure they will do something new. But there is no guarantee its gonna be worth the cd its burned on. Chris has been scaring the shit outta me lately. Or maybe Im just being overly worried.

i’m not entirely sure they will. we’re digging into some unsettling rumors.

Hellfire and damnation! How can a band take a 12 year break, get their shit together, and not have a new idea or two? AiC came back with a damn good album (personally one of my favorite of the year) with Black Gives Way To Blue. Is Chris really outta new juice? I know you guys will make a post the second you have more concrete info, but goddamn I hope the rumors are wrong

I know its strange but a live album from the 96′ tour? The tour they looked least interested in playing, a diasterous Lollapalooza gig with Metallica’s horrible fans throwing stuff on stge, and Ben Shepherd going spastic and spitting on a photographer at show in California near the end of the US leg? I guess 94′ leg is out of the question too since Chris’ loses his voice in the middle of the US run.

To me what should be released: t

the 93′ US summer tour with Neil Young-soundboards were done as b-sides for Superunknown singles, the full Motorvision show (Seattle March 92′), and the full Louder than Live Whiskey show. They exist for sure. You can’t film those shows without at least having those songs in the archives somewhere.
