Listen To Gorillaz’ Plastic Beach Right Now!

By Johnny Firecloud

Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn has won the internet leak battle with the band’s third album, Plastic Beach, preventing the massively-anticipated tracks from seeing the light of day – until now, that is.

You can hear the entire thing streaming now on NPR, where Gorillaz have made the sounds available a week prior to physical release.

Waves are rising…

Update: Am I alone in finding this to be a blippy pile of ass? On first listen, Plastic Beach seems to be the most deflating highly-anticipated release since Chinese Democracy. I’ll let it settle in deeper before tomorrow’s review, but as it stands, the hype for Massive Attack’s Heligoland was far more warranted.

Sounds pretty solid as a whole, but I feel like a lot of these tracks wouldn’t stand alone very well.

  • ouchy says:

I liked it. Not a big fan of the rap stuff but the soul/rock/pop infusions they do are still amazing.

  • Atom says:

Not what i normally listen to…but i already like it more than the other two albums.

Also, any album that has Mark E. Smith on it is automatically made 10 times better in my book.

  • tng/dharma69 says:

    It made me sleepy.

I’m really liking the tracks Rhinestone Eyes and Some Kind of Nature. Superfast Jellyfish is just awesome :D The album as a whole feels like a warm summer night and a solid piece. Perhaps I’ll need a few more listens to get to like the other tracks…

Enjoying more than I thought I would. Plastic Beach is the perfect title. It sounds shiny, glossy, warm. This album should come out in June. Are we gonna get a video? That is always the highlight of Gorillaz releases for me.

  • Michael says:

I’ve listened to 5 songs so far. The second song blows. Everything else is solid.

  • Michael says:

Actually, I should clarify. The “second song,” to me, is the one that starts with the dude with the Caribbean accent rapping.

  • ZiggyK says:

    15 seconds? Nevermind x

  • Bill Fucking Murray says:

i like some of the Hindi music influence in there, not to sound like a “world music” turd with a horrible pony tail. some of that traditional middle eastern music is fucking crazy, in a good way, no word of a lie.

  • DantexWilliamsx10 says:

Bill F-ing Murray….there is no reason for you to apologize to your liking of world music. I’m a very huge fan of cultural music and new age music in general. I believe that it is some of the most beautiful and spiritual music ever created.

Moving on to the Gorillaz….wow…..that’s all I can say. I’ve been a fan ever since their inception. Stylo, Superfast Jellyfish, Rhinestone Eyes, White Flag, Empire Ants….it’s all gold to me. Wow….just wow….

I believe Stylo will become the new “Feel Good, Inc.”….Bobby Womack definitely delivers on the track. Mos Def’s rap is soulful and full of spunk. And the overtones of the song are just amazing, as well as the samples used. I just love that song!!!! CAN”T WAIT FOR THE ALBUM TO DROP!!! WILL BE ONE OF THE FIRST ONES TO BUY IT!!!!

PLEASE SUPPORT THE ARTISTS!!! NO DOWNLOADS!!!!

    Thank You!!!!

  • Freak on a fucking leash says:

this album was fucking great i just didnt like 2 songs that had a hideous rap but 2 hated out of 16 doesnt talk bad about this album. Damon Albarn is a fucking genius!

  • mitcheljd says:

Well, going into it not expecting much from what Johnny said, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not what I had hoped it would be but I do like it a lot for some reason and I can’t quite put my finger on why.

  • After avoiding it for 16 hours I’m diving in completely today with new ears. We’ll see what comes of it.

  • tipster says:

i think that this is awesome. i have been waiting for a while now to hear it. and i absolutely love it. i loooooove old gorillaz, but i think this is good too.

  • Rob says:

dont dare review this negatively, its innovative and, even though i dont dance.. damn man, its danceable. very danceable. i can picture these songs playing in a club or at home, its great and its clever. give it a chance all the way, it has a bit of a false start. Rhinestone Eyes is immense
