Diamond Eyes Open

The title track from the Deftones forthcoming album Diamond Eyes was premiered on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio show today. You can listen to it here.

AUDIO REMOVED AT THE REQUEST OF WARNER BROS. RECORDS. And we were just talking about how relatively cool they were about hooking us fans up with cool stuff. I’ll tell ya, some people… However, depending on your location, you may or may not still be able to listen to the stream on Zane Lowe’s page here.

Sike, here it is. THANK YOU, DEFTONES.

Zane briefly interviewed Deftones lead singer Chino Moreno (you can hear the conversation after the song). Moreno said that the band “buried themselves” into making this album something fresh and relevant, and that they’re excited to tour the album extensively, for at least a year and a half. Diamond Eyes is set for a May 18th release, and the band is already set to play several festivals starting in late April, including Download and Rock On The Range.

Check out the video for Rocket Skates here, and more info on Diamond Eyes here.

The artwork for Diamond Eyes can be viewed over at the Deftones’ Chilean Fansite, who dug up the recording (and currently have it up for download), and are generally pretty damn on top of Deftones news.

Sounds like an unfinished Linkin Park song. Listening to this it’s not hard to understand why numetal tanked.

  • Klavonsky says:

I think it sounds pretty sick.

  • Kevin says:

Have you even heard Linkin Park before jpnyc? I don’t see how anyone that is familiar with either of these bands let alone numetal could make comparisons, remarks like that. Really nice track. Still prefer Rocket Skates though.

  • Deuce says:

Seriously? An unfinished Linkin Park track? Did you perhaps consider the fact that LP just wishes they were as badass as the Deftones?

I like the track, sounds like more of the same with Rocket Skates and hopefully they stayed on target.

i still think that nick rasculinez oversimplified their sound. that said stefs riffs are fucking HEAVY. hear the meshuggah influence coming through. i still put money down that eros destroys this

Stoked about this album. I can’t not love anything these guys do. Been a fan since ‘96. Deftones somehow got lumped into the Nu-Metal genre, and it is pure fallacy. They are head and shoulders above any product of the ’90s to whom they have traditionally been attached by the travesty that is “Nu-Metal.” Why that genre was even formulated and how they got associated with it, other than by pure shit timing, is beyond me. If you look at what Deftones were producing at the time of Nu-Metal’s peak, i.e., White Pony, you can’t even come close to justifying saying that their music was like that of other bands of that era. It was a completely different level of creativity and sonic ingenuity. jpnyc, I’m just gonna say it…you’re a dumbfuck.

  • I’m interviewing Chino next week (when I’m back from getting shitfaced in Ireland). Interested to get his perspective on it all.

  • [...] release from Warner Bros… Which apparently means they’ll do everything possible to keep you from listening to the music unless you marry it [...]

  • Justin says:

I first saw the Deftones in the Bay Area in like 96. They are a calss act and I think it says a lot for them that they provided you with a new song link. Can’t wait for the new record.

  • zoopster says:

Huh. Good thing I listened to it yesterday. Now I can’t access it at all. Thanks, Warners. That was a cool interview while it lasted.

  • Lino Lee says:

I feel strongly that this Album will win a Grammy…so far, after just hearing 2 tracks, this album is on it’s way for record of the year. Lino Lee 3-15-2010

  • Lino Lee says:

OK…at least 2…gotta get one for best Metal Performance. Lino Lee 03-17-2010

  • Skwerl says:

    loving this song.

  • gregor says:

thanks antiquiet, take on the labels and get us an even better quality version! this song is great, that riff at the end made my face melt off

  • deftonez says:

jpync, go jerk your tiny cock off to fergie from black eyes peas like you do every night

  • Aphrica says:

The Meshuggah influence is obvious in this one.
    That’s not a bad thing, boys ;)

But this doesn’t sound like Deftones… i’m nervous to hear the rest.

  • Justin says:

While I would love to see the Deftones at “Music Biggest Night”, sadly the dipshits who run/vote for Grammy’s would NEVER be cool enough to give the band an award (here is where someone schools me and pulls up some wiki page where we learn that The Deftones once won best Native American Spoken Word packaging for their self titled album).

  • Stephanie says:

This sounds closer to classic Deftones. Huge fan here. I am uber excited about this drop!!!! I agree Aphrica, def a Meshuggah influence on this track, which is AWESOME!

  • BB says:

I nominate this song to be on Lost, or the theme song for it.
