Uniform Motion Animates The Atmosphere

It’s an uphill battle for any band to get some exposure these days, and you’ve got to use whatever skills you have to develop an original concept that will bring people in. Good thing for UK-based indie groove-folk collective Uniform Motion, there’s an animated illustrator among their ranks. No, he doesn’t play an instrument or sing, he simply presents a real-time graphic narrative that corresponds to the music and lyrics, a full A/V creative installation known as Pictures, which also happens to be the name of their debut album.

The group, which has the gentle atmospheric prominence of Air with a rich, minimalist precision and stunning harmonies, has put together a combination of social media, flash animation and music to create a customizable greeting card featuring the band performing and a personalized message that appears on their backdrop. You can toggle the tracks, choose your song, select instruments to mute and send it to whoever the hell you want to, if that’s your thing. If I didn’t lose you at “customizable greeting card,” enjoy the experience, because it’s a pretty cool one:

French illustrator Reuno (Renaud Forestie) is the visual member of the UK-based group, who illustrates live via projector while the musicians play. For a more realistic example of what’s going on, check this impressive performance of The Pen Fallacy:

If that rubbed you the right way, you can get their debut album, Pictures, for free when signing up for the group’s newsletter via the band’s official site.
