News:  Jane's Addiction

Duff McKagan To Join Jane’s Addiction?

By Skwerl

Jane’s Addiction fansite xiola.org reports that original Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan is the mysterious new writing partner and bassist for Jane’s Addiction. As we reported earlier this month, Original Jane’s bassist Eric Avery is officially out, once again, due to… the usual.

As the LA Weekly blog very correctly asserts, McKagan is the “one with his shit together.” We’ve been fans of Duff’s for a long time now, and consider this a perfect time to remind you that we did a great interview with the man back in May.

He’s a very talented bassist and underrated songwriter, and overall we’re pretty excited about this completely unexpected news strong rumor.

I think he will bring the experience the Jane’s fans felt lacked when Chaney joined, nothing against Chaney. I think this will be good addition and a twist to the Jane’s sound. Now what about Velvet Revolver? Dead in the water or on “indefinite hiatus”?

holy shit i Didn’t even read the article yet, merely the headline, but I think that is the fucking COOLEST thing if it does happen. Never would’ve expected that but fuck yeah!! ok now I’ll go read the article to see if I’m a fool or not……….

  3. tng/dharma69 says:

Any opportunity to catch Duff in the live is welcome.

  4. Justin says:

You can put Duff in the band, Avery, Chaney, D’arcy, or Mike Starr, fact is no one bought the last JA record, what makes them think anyone will by this one? Face it, you were great, but you are one step away from headlining third market county fairs.

  5. Stoo says:

oh god are you kidding me? McKagan’s a douchebag dad rocker.

Avery was immense, Perry and Dave must be assholes to work with.

  6. stu says:

    dad rocker? really?

  7. Rory says:

Duff has gone from the coolest drunk high guy in the world…to just the coolest guy in general.

  8. Kevin says:

Excited to hear this. Duff is rad. Met him once in Nashville. Just the nicest guy you could imagine.

  9. Chofolo says:

GnR has always sucked and JA has sucked since the first breakup. Sounds like a perfect match.

  10. Peter says:

That’s interesting… he is good bassist with cool style and great songwriter if he writes new material with them that’s cool and would be kick ass on stage. He is friends with JA guys so it should work , I remember how Dave Navarro was meant to be Izzy replacement but was too strung out to take the job..

As for VR I don’t see a reason for them to “come back” they didn’t have much identity with Scott and he was the only guy who could fill up Axl’s shoes, great songwriter and singer with his personal style and he have great stage presence and he somehow failed to “replace” Axl and can they find someone better? There is one guy who has voice and balls to make awesome blues hard rock record and his name is Sebastian Bach but he would never take a job, because it happens that he’s great friend of Axl.

  11. Tanya says:

Or Eric is the asshole and his solo work SUCKS. He sure looks miserable in every picture I’ve him in. Maybe he is better suited working with the likes of Alanis Morrisette and that Garbage girl. Hey, didn’t he try to audition for Metallica once? He should stop trying to be a singer and stop ripping Peter Hook off! JA rocks, Without him.

  12. Stoo says:

Have you even listened to Strays?

  13. Skwerl says:

i liked strays. i saw ‘em a couple times on that tour, too, and they kicked ass.
it was a little different… more rocking, less mushroomy. it may have lacked an edge at times, but i think duff would solve that. so i’ve got a pretty open mind about a new album.

  14. pupo says:

Duff is Duff & Eric’s Eric
Dave is stupid and so is Perry

    RIP JANE

  15. Ricardo says:

Dude, saw Duff with Veltet Revolver con Chile two years ago, and he’s the man!!!! and Loaded’s “sick” it’s an amazing record, too bad they didn’t come to my country ’cause Axl’s rant….

  16. Fuck them haters. Strays was a fantastic record.

  17. Porkspam says:

I’m a huge fan of everybody in Janes’ work in and out of the band. Honestly, I don’t mind this at all, same with John leaving the chilli peppers. Both have put out amazing solo albums. Eric’s most recent one has great songs and his voice is almost in the joy devision stlye, but more smoothly and natural sounding. As far as duff he’s got a great blog he’s been posting to for a while now http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/reverb/duff_mckagan/
check it out if you haven’t yet, he’s got a good head now that he’s sober. Also he’s already played with steve and dave for a while in camp freddy (more dave than steve). and it’s better than perry having the guitarist from extreme like he did in satellite party (good cd, but nuno is a douche). And while janes was around w/guns in LA and even had a rehersal studio next to each other. Duff comes from punk roots(real punk). Slash is doing his solo cd garbage (I mean that fergie colab? but then perry had her on a satellite party track). The only singer i can think of that’d do scott and axl justice is Keith Caputo from Life of agony. Listen to his last solo cd or love to let you down from the last LOA cd and youcan hear it. Bach? He’s doing fucking celebrity fit club and is still suckin axl’s dick touring with them. And this is just recording so far, not a tour. Sorry for the long post

  18. Duff is lame says:

    Tanya is a moron

  19. ericaverystaint says:

this rumor is spot on. all i have to say about it is good for avery. perry wants 87% of everything while dave stephen and eric are suppose to split the other 12%. fuck that.

perry’s latest solo stuff is probably the worst music produced in the past 5 years.

  20. zoopster says:

I agree with Johnny. Strays was a good album. Not their best but still solid. The more you listen, the deeper it gets.

  21. zoopster says:

perry’s latest solo stuff is pretty unlistenable, I agree.

  22. Skwerl says:

yeah, i definitely agree with everyone on the new perry stuff. wow, was that bad. liked some satellite party stuff, and generally dig nuno. hard life easy’s a good jam.

  23. Tanya says:

Oh no! It seems like the haters from Xiola.org, the JA hate site, have infiltrated! You all must have been soooo cool in high school, in 1990. All you Eric Avery fans, go listen to your “vintage” JA records again, and his solo stuff, Eric totally ripped Peter Hook off, like 8 bars at a time. Of course when he was playing with Alanis and Garbage, then he sounded completely original.

  24. Peter says:

Porkspam who cares about Bach being Axl’s friend, what is bad in friendship in musical industry ? Bach turned down millions of dollars (gig with VR) to pay respect to Axl, and nevermind his reality shows etc Bach is still rocking on stage and has awesome voice, if Slash and co wanted to make blues- hard rock record he was only option.

  25. Porkspam says:

Oh please. If VR had bach in the band, they never would have been anything more than a joke…Scott more or less made that band the monster they were. Yeah thew b and could play, but they needed a voice and persona. not just some good singer. But than again it’d probably have had a cool name like “savage animal” or whatever shit name bach thought cool at that time. Last thing I heard he did musically was only BECAUSE he asked axl to guest on his solo cd. Before that? maybe 18 to life or some skid row song. But I admit he knows who to hump and keep his name out there. Doing shitty family dramas and things like celebrity fit club. and there’s being friends and riding somebody’s coat tails

  26. Peter says:

VR was a monster ? That’s interesting…oh yeah they ripped someone’s else song ( lost in court riff was almost the same) ripped STP song ( Slither) released water downed album called “Libertad” and were doing the same setlist almost everywhere.
VR was average band with or without Scott, Scott made some terrific tunes with VR but few songs won’t save average band, Slash riffs vere generic, solos even more average nothing special….
And Bach is still kicking ass on stage and has huge voice, and since when being on media radar means a shit in music ? His CD was good nothing great but good and tunes with Axl were really cool but it mean nothing, he is hard rock singer and great one and he would fit into band if they really wanted to go blues hard rock.

Bach keeping his name out there? and what about Slash ? let me remind you
    - collaborations with Fergie, Pussycat Dolls, Paulina Rubio, Vasco Rossi
    - his “cover” of “Paradise City” with Cypress Hill and Fergie
    - going on tour with some pop jokes
    - American Idol appearance
    - NFS soundtrack
    - Grammys,
    - countless interviews
    - Guitar Hero cartoon character ( using GN’R name and not his current VR – that speaks a lot)
    - there is like every part of guitar with Slash sig – Les pual, Crybabies, strings, pedals, effects, pick-ups , tophats
    - autobiography with clear lies towards public
    - not to mention some stupid press remarks
    - oh and Slash has like millions of cash so he doesn’t need this but Axl was right calling him “whore for limelight” , he is just selling out big.

yeah and in your eyes Bach is bad because he has some celebrity reality shows and is real friends with Axl, and Bach contrary to Slash isn’t wealthy he was close to broke and didn’t have cash to keep a band. So he needs to do this to continue making music that’s why he will get my support. And I’m not some Skid Row/ Bach fanboy like that kind of music but that’s all. And tons of respect for Bach as he showed that he won’t work with Slash turning down tons of cash respecting his friend. Such actions will always earn respect in my book.

  27. Porkspam says:

yeah but slash was on space ghost coast to coast…
lol… stop taking yourself so seriously, unless you ARE bach you’re getting a little to into this over there. but kudos for trying to put down velvet revolver and not going for the cheap scott weiland route. and if you want to diss slash you gotta get down on the 411. search for the cover to his new solo cd. looks like he did it himself in photoshop, or something you’d find airbrushed on a tee on the shore boardwalk.

and bach HAD lots of money back in the day. But he blew it all on comic books and stupid shit. Slash saved his money. And you’re not really defending bach well saying he’s an amazing singer who puts out a good, but not great cd. Sorry slash does interviews about things and has his own guitar out. Then again so does dime, and alot of other guitarists who youknow, meant something to the use of the instrument. Bach never makes stupid press statements :cough aids kills fags dead, cough: if doc mcghee wouldn’t quit working for motley crue and putting up with thier shit, but says bach is a self glorifying diva, that says something. eh, whatever i’m not gonna keep this up you win

  28. Peter says:

No I’m not Bach but making look Bach bad when he takes part in some celebrity shows and has actual friends and is a good friend too while Slash is doing even more stupid things tarnishing his legacy and image ( and he is much bigger figure than Bach). I won’t diss him over cover ( have seen it ) it is pretty bad but I hope some songs kicks ass but can’t understand why he left out Alice Cooper tracks and tracklist has Adam Levine , Kid Rock and Fergie tracks WTF?.
I wouldn’t say than Slash saved his money maybe yes maybe not , but fact is he had much more money than Bach. My point was than Bach needs to do celebrity shit etc cos he doesn’t have money to front a band , Slash on the other hand is doing it with no real reason ( his Grammy “solo” was fuckin’ bad and really must he play with Foxx)
I was just true “Angel Down” was good CD but nothing spectacular 4-5 great songs, other songs sucked)
The same with VR they had some great songs ( mostly because of Scott) but other songs were plain average.

  29. Porkspam says:

look peter… ok i’m not a big bach fan, but let’s just say slash isn’t like in my top list of interesting people. He’s pretty much a douche bag and self serving (reading his book gavce me that impression.) I like him as a guitar player and guns is and VR were good bands. Neither put out cds of front to back amazing songs, closest would be appetite. I think this started off about duff in janes. And now I like duff, he seems intelligent and like a cool guy. But even he’s fucked up. I heard he smacked girls in his alcoholic hazes and shit like that got him in trouble when he pushed vince neils girlfriend at some LA bar one time. But like most people in general, musicians too are fucked up people alot of the time. It’s just we more or less build up an image of what we believe them to be in our heads based on what little info we know on them, mixed with our love and interpritation of their music, and then added with a dash of our imagination.. and VIOLA dissapointment when you meet your rockstar/musician/whateer cause they weren’t who you wanted/thought them to be..
anyway if I was slash, as far as my solo cd would go, i’d have taken a page from the probot book and called in all the rock and metal “god” singers.

  30. Jordan says:

Hmm. . . I think Duff is a good bassist, even if he is a douchebag.

  31. zoopster says:

Rolling stone news snippet in latest issue confirms Duff is recording with the band
