News: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Black Rebel Dances With The Devil
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s 2005 album Howl ranked #15 on our list of the 50 best albums of its decade. Its follow-up, Baby 81, had a damn good shot as well. It goes without saying that we’re anticipating Beat The Devil’s Tattoo, due out March 9th. Today we got our hands on the title track, the first single.
Newcomer Leah Shapiro has stepped in to replace drummer Nick Jago, a welcome lineup change if you ask us.
You can’t assume too much about a good album from just one song, but the new single seems more in the company of the band’s older stuff, pre-Howl even, than of their most recent. That’s sure to please a large cross-section of the band’s fans, but we have faith that the album will bring some surprises. This band consistently delivers.
Thanks Trina!

Yeah, that Buddhyhead Xmas thing was a debacle. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I’d be hard pressed to believe it.
I’ve heard a few of the songs on “Tattoo” and I particularly dig “Conscience Killer”. I’ve seen BRMC live w/ Shapiro and she was good, but she was playing the beats that preceded her. Her interpretation fine, even if some songs paced a touch slower. Not an issue. But now it’s all her and she’s as solid as they come.
It took me a year to figure out “Stop” (as heard on Indie 103.1 before they even had DJ’s) was BRMC. Once I put a name to the jam, I was hooked. I am stoked for this new record, but must disagree with part of this review. This song is the perfect mix of the laid back acoustic/blues based songs on Howl, mixed with the snarling feed back big muff (the stomp box, not those Demi Moore nudes that recently showed up online) rock of their first two albums. Man I can’t wait for March 9th.
actually, i agree with your assessment.
Demi Moore nudes?
skwerl, just wanted to say i’ve been following antiquiet for a little while now (since the TCV interview) and i gotta say i really dig what you guys are doing here. excellent reviews (for the most part), articles, and a reliable shit-filter for the overwhelming sea of crap music out there today. good to see some true music fans who aren’t afraid to stray away from the bandwagon of hipster garbage that the folks at pitchfork and spin can’t get enough of, and manage to maintain a diverse range of coverage. this article prompted me to check out BRMC, and i gotta say, these guys deserve the accolades. a band i will definitely check out at their april stop in toronto. cheers.
thanks man. that means so much to hear.
Aaron, BRMC Toronto shows are always great. The first night at the Phoenix is sold out, but they just added a second night.
Both should be great!
Really enjoying this new song, can’t wait to hear the rest of it.
I’m really looking forward to this album. Their 1st 2 were favorites of mine for a long time but Howl just didn’t do anything for me.
march just can´t come soon enough!
