News: The White Stripes
Under Great White Northern Lights
The White Stripes’ documentary film, Under Great White Northern Lights, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and has been selected for a few other film festivals around the globe, is finally getting its DVD release. In style.
The documentary, which documented the Stripes’ tour throughout Canada back in 2007, is being released in a deluxe box set, which comes with a live album in CD / double LP format containing 16 tracks, an exclusive 7″ vinyl, a hardcover book of photography, a silkscreened print, and a DVD containing the entire performance of The White Stripes’ 10th anniversary concert in Nova Scotia, entitled Under Nova Scotian Lights. All of this is available for pre-order at their official site for $179, but there is a warning that once 2010 comes along, the price will rise to $229.
If you think the price is too steep for this shiny box, there is some consolation in the fact that the documentary DVD and the live album CD/LP will be sold separately. Unfortunately, the live DVD containing their 10th anniversary gig (which, by the way, is over 2 hours long with an epic setlist), arguably the most interesting item for many fans, is exclusive to the box set.
Pre-orders will start shipping on March 16, and the standalone editions of the items mentioned above will be up for sale at the same date.
Edited as per trucks’ comments.

First off, you need a Canadian writer (or at least editor), cause we have provinces and territories here (no states).
And secondly, it is misleading to say people are not willing to pay 200 bucks for one DVD, cause you are not in fact paying 200 bucks for only one DVD.
oh shit, i didn’t think they had internet there. er, just kidding. fixing. oops, and sorry.
Exclusive to the box set and a wonderful thing called “The Internet” :)
Looks like a fancy thing to own. The Rob Jones-stuff look nice.
This is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. I threw down my 200 immediately. This should come with a t-shirt that says “I’m Jack White’s Money Machine #2539″.
Way to make me wait three extra months for my Christmas present, bastards. Sike – can’t wait for this one.
At least my card doesn’t get charged til it ships in March. If you are planning on buying it at all, might as well do it now and save the 50 bucks.
a white stripes live album?!?! you think theres any chance it’d be available without dropping 200 bucks?
uhh, i take that back, i should really read the whole thing before i post
What a shame that Jack (my favorite artist of the last 20 years, by far) became just another greedy asshole….I thought he had more class than that. (
