I’m sorry Peter, but I won’t let you go away with that bullshit you’re writing. Slash never siad he can’t shred. In fact, the outro of Paradise City is a shred.

Also Slash doesn’t use one scale all the time, by saying so you’re just showing how you have never listened any other GNR except the top hits. Get back at me when you find out that Slash uses a variety of scales, including Dorain modes, also the Phrygian scale at Double Talkin Jive, Harmonic Minor at Sweet Child O’ Mine.

I guess you just heard that form those pathetic Slash haters but it’s just nonsense.

Also, Buckethead with GNR was horrible. He destroyed all those great songs with his pathetic fast playing. The outro of November Rain isn’t supposed to contain shredding, it bled my ears. Can that guy play some slow song without shredding at all? I heard all the new GNR live concerts and none of them plays SCOM fast part solo right. It contains very easy bends but it’s a bit tricky to make it sound exactly like Slash does. Check the UYI 2 live version of Slash and you will see how it is performed.

On top of that, check out the recent Slash & Friends Nightrain cover. It’s arguably the best version of it instrumentally-wise. Slash hasn’t lost its touch… but he has his bad times like back in the day.

Slash doing what he wants and not giving a fuck ? Wasn’t he saying that record company wanted other single to promote an album (Libertad) than the band and they had to agree? Isn’t he they guy who talks so mich how he was forced by guy he hired (Weiland) to write music he didn’t like? Slash gives a fuck about others – countless interviews on the matter of Axl ( mostly lies he even self contradicted himslef dozen times) and Scott just do not support your flawed theory. Oh and wasn’t Slash the guy who lost in court for ripping off whole instrumental part along with riffs of the song he hasn’t written.
Axl on the other hand when record company sent him a producer just took his car on the ride through those producer’s CDs
But I won’t respond to your other rants – he can’t keep culture in your discussion why should I bother? I like to argue but only when sides have points of view to exchange. Insulting, showing lack of respect for others etc is very poor imitation of discussion.

zoopster they thing with name of the band wasn’t totally different case. The band just passed all the right to the name to Axl in 1991 and they weren’t forced to. Under USA law if they were forced in any way such paper would be not valid. They just passed him rights and royality issue is simple – cosidering AFD, Lies,SPI?every one gets his share, UYI is by songwriting credits or something.
I generally agree with your decscription of Chinese Democracy that is was and effort in self indulgence but that “fuck you” is also there not in art aspect but in the way he didn’t care about haters, record company, time to make etc also he didn’t promote it in any way and it sold over 5mln copies worldwide not THAT Bad but far from Great.
And Yes it shouldn’t have take 14 years to release it.

You have to remember, when you’re working with a psychopath like Axl, you gotta concede on a lot of shit or the guy is gonna flip out and steamroll ya. Hence, the songwriting/royalty issues and ultimately the breakup and the name of the band being passed on to Axl. Chinese Democracy wasn’t so much “fuck you” to critics and the record industry as it was an effort in self indulgence by a megalomaniac. Great album. Shouldn’t have taken 14 fucking years to make.

Yeah BDsaint J hit the nail of the head – they weren’t awesome musicans but 5 of them created one of the best rock n’ roll albums if not the best

It’s all about spirit, always keep in mind that rock and roll isn’t just music, is also a way of seeing things.
The first Guns and Roses, was the blend of five souls, that wanted to play ROCK AND ROLL.
The new Guns and Roses, is a blend of visions of a man, who look a the evil/holy spirit of rock and roll in the eye, and said: “ok, that was good…but today, isn’t yesterday anymore”…So I proposed that the old GNR write some songs, that the new GNR record it, and that the old GNR go on tour.
We can spent hours discusing…but Slash will contiunue to play with some shitty pop starlet, and Axl will continue to make music giving a shit what people think…cause that’s the way they see it. I mean, it’s great that some 15 year old, see that magnanimus ass of Fergie and think…”hey, whose the guy with the hat?” and then go and buy Apetitte. And it’s great to hear from Axl once in a while. So, let’s cut the bullshit and enjoy…if not the jonas brother are gonna get ya…

I think it all boils down to karma or something like it. The catacysmic event that occurs when the right people are together at the right time. I agree that Brain, Finke, Buckethead, & Stinson are probably better musicians in a clinical sense. Slash and Duff have both admitted that they are not “great” guitarists. However, you can not deny the fact that when Duff, Slash, Izzy, Steve and Axl got together in 1987 and recorded AFD there was some kind of sonic convergence. These average to good musicians apart, when together, created what may end up being one of the greatest Rock records of all time. I have seen them live, the old and the new. Frankly I enjoyed the latest incarnation much more live than the old line up. The last time I saw the old line up was at MSG in NYC on the tour with Metallica and Skid Row opening. Axl was late as hell (and I had a spanish final the next day), Slash had to restart a few songs and was pretty noticeably innebriated – it was a good show but not one of my all time favorites. I saw the new lineup in 07 in B-more, MD and I have to admit it blew the two other times I saw them away. The show was polished and professional, the musicianship was stellar and AXL was a whirlwind dervish. I would love to see the original lineup back together (thought you can leave Adler out – Sorum was way better), but if thats not going to happen I will still be a fan of the current incarnation. Come on Van Halen was still Van Halen even when they were really Van Haggar.

Yeah I agree for me they are both great sets of instrumentalists. I am guitarist myself and Slash was the reason why I started playing guitar, but his style is based on one scale and signature bends , Buckethead is more not only on “Chinese Democracy” where he has some great stuff but his solo stuff is mindblowing , he isn’t fast shredder at all, his technique is clinical but he has very emotional and moving stuff as well, his Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door solo is one of my favourite -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1LU4f_emW0. Also his “Nightrain” solos were insane.
As for Slash I have problem with him, and it’s not based on the fact that he left Guns N’ Roses and Axl hates him and vice versa so I have to choose sides and adore one of them and hate other one. I have a problem with Slash based only on his music collaboration with Pualina Rubio shouldn’t happen, playing Pussycat Dolls songs on his concert – WTF? Slash of 87 would laugh at the idea of him playing such stuff. Also he stated many times how much he hates SCOM and Patience and still both are regular tracks on his setlist/VR setlist and “Patience” is strange because in fact Duff nor Slash had no artstic input in that song and hated it to extreme back in the day. I would like Slash to record real stuff not for money but for himself, fans etc not some half-assed efforts as his playing in VR ( And I still dig some VR stuff but I think it is because of Scott’s melodies because guitar playing is very generic).
Also comments that Chinese Democracy was emberrassement just shows hatred toward Axl nothing more, I would use such words to describe any art made of passion. And Chinese Democracy is above all result of passion , passion for music. I understand why a lot of people will hate it only for Axl but for me it is spiritual successor to “Use Your Illusion”. And Slash has used Guns N’ Roses to promote himself , Axl never did it. Why on the cover of Guitar Hero and in game he is labeled as Guns N’ Roses guitarist not a world about VR ?
Axl could go solo , it would be more successful and he wouldn’t have negative press and tons of expectations, but maybe he really loves that band and what it represent, he was founding member ( Slash wasn’t) and major songwriter also he choose to stick to in every situation ( other members didn’t care about it when they signed the papers leaving all rights to Axl) and maybe Guns N’ Roses mean to him that “fuck you,alone against the world “attitude because he still has this attitude.
It was controversial decision, and he knew how much backslash he will receive for that and still made that move…
