Neil Young (Sort Of) Covers The Fresh Prince Theme Song
By Johnny Firecloud, November 24th, 2009
Did Neil Young cover the theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air last night? Well, not really, but “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon threw on a wig, a hat and some flannel last night for what was the hands-down best impression of Young Neil I’ve ever seen.
The former SNL star – who’s done hilarious impressions of Barry Gibb and Dave Matthews, among others – absolutely nails Young’s sound and style as he turns a silly TV theme song into pure heartstrumming gold.
I’d just about given up on Jimmy Fallon, despite having the most badass house band in the history of television, until I saw this video. Gotta give it to the guy for such a great performance.
Thanks to Shawn Smith for the pic/heads up.

I don’t know where Fallon got the idea to do this, but that’s classic.

Fallons show is actually pretty damn funny. The first month or so was extremely rough. But once he settled in he has grown exponentially. He takes the mediocre monologue of all late night shows and cuts it down to about 3-5 minutes and then follows up with some genuinely funny recurring bits (Head Swap, 7th Floor West, Real Housewives of Late Night, Thank You Notes). I usually skip the interviews if it’s someone I don’t care about but the ones I do watch are entertaining. Plus he has The Roots which is pretty damn awesome when they occasionally play w/whatever band is performing that night.

I like Jimmy… I didn’t use to like his lack of ability to make it through an SNL skit without cracking up, but having been to a taping of the show, he really is pretty talented, and it’s apparent that’s he’s just a bit of a geek who somehow managed to get himself in a pretty good position to entertain people – which he does very well. Power to him.
