Our appreciation for The Decemberists’ masterpiece The Hazards Of Love was renewed and reinforced by the band’s flawless performance at Austin City Limits this year. That perfect album was released over six months ago, yet the video for lead single The Rake’s Song just dropped late last week.
Breaking a bit from this month’s trend so far, it’s not pornographic, nor considerably surreal.
And if you haven’t checked out Hazards Of Love yet, you ought to do so, says we.
UPDATE… There’s a little more to this one apparently. First off, the video is official, however it was made by students Alex Dashino and Varvara Volodina, who entered it into a competition. This explains the wait. Furthermore, there’s an animated “visualization” of the Hazards Of Love story, entitled Here Come The Waves. It’s a collaboration between the band and four filmmakers. More info, along with a trailer, can be viewed here.
The band is scheduled to play UCLA’s Royce Hall on October 19th, and it has been announced that they will be performing the entire album synchronized with a projection of Here Come The Waves.

Hahahahaha I love the headbanging sillouettes at about 1:28
