No Funeral Any Time Soon For The Dead Weather

If you’ve been anxiously waiting for The Dead Weather (Jack White’s other other band) to end its touring activities for the year, so that he can finally go back to The White Stripes, you may just have to hang in there a little longer.
A few days ago, Jack White made an appearance on the chatroom for his fancy fan club The Vault, announcing to subscribers that The Dead Weather were already preparing songs for a new album (more specifically, lead singer Alison Mosshart was “writing music on a really cool guitar”), and that said album would come out less than a year after the release of their debut, Horehound. Considering that album came out in July 2009, taking Jack’s word at face value, one could expect the follow-up to Horehound in the first half of 2010.
A few days ago, Mosshart confirmed to NME that before year’s end the group plans to head to the studio to record newly written material. “They sound great. I really like them,” she said about the new songs. “We’ve been playing three or four of them onstage, so they keep changing all the time.” These new songs that the band have been playing are Jawbreaker (first debuted in August, as reported here), No Horse and I Can’t Hear You.

More clips are on YouTube; here is Jawbreaker from the same source, here is No Horse, and here is a more recent version of I Can’t Hear You, with Jack on guitar.

I am so excited for the next album. I am even more excited with anticipation than I was for their first (if that’s possible). I think this band is so interesting, dark, moody and insanely rock. I hope to hear more blues incorporated in the new tracks and another opportunity for Alison Mosshart to release guttural growls and cigarette infused screams ala ‘Bone House’.
So obsessed. I can’t find anything like it, therefore I can’t fucking wait!
[...] As for the album itself, Entertainment IE reports that it’s called Sea Of Cowards, and we can expect it May 7th. This puts it into our hands less than a year after their debut, Horehound, was released, as promised by Mr. White. [...]
