Rammstein Considerably Hard-Up For Sex, Fame

Rammstein have completely jumped the shark. And on the way over, I think they may have gang-raped it.

rammstein-sausage

These guys have always had a certain subtle air of self-mockery, but as any scholar of wit can tell you, you don’t necessarily have to be serious to be taken seriously; you just have to take yourself seriously. That’s why Type O Negative’s schtick works, and I hate to name this band in the same sentence, but even the lame-ass Darkness got this right.

A week or so ago, I started seeing ads right here on Antiquiet for a new Rammstein song called Pussy, apparently tied to some kind of weird “viral” campaign for some sort of swingers’ rights organization called LIFAD, or “Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da” (Love is there for everyone*). That was just the tip of the iceberg.

The video for Pussy is out, and it’s thoroughly, thoroughly X-Rated. We’ve never shied away from explicit content here before, but this is even more extreme than the uncensored trailers for actual pornos featuring stars we’ve interviewed. We’re just going to link to it.

Featuring scenes of the band actually fucking, the lyrics are basically a pamphlet of the only German words all Americans know: bratwurst, sauerkraut, blitzkreig, fahrvergnügen. And then a chorus in English: You’ve got a pussy. I have a dick. So what’s the problem!? Let’s do it, quick!

What is this, a Günther video? Unlike the band’s definitive late 90s releases, there’s no redeeming artistic value here. It’s gonzo porn, and surely an attempt to stage a cheap comeback on the back of a “viral” video.

It makes me regret ever taking the band seriously.

* Thanks to Passenger for the corrected translation.

  • You ever took this band seriously?

  • Passenger says:

“Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da” (Love is there for everyone)

  • Skwerl says:

    ah, thank you passenger.
and yeah i mean kinda johnny. was never a huge fan, but they had some good shit in the 90s that enabled me to look past their über-deutsch shtick.

  • Passenger says:

I laughed out loud at the German flag preaching. I’m sure the censored version looks a bit less so-over-the-top-shocking, hah.

  • Rory says:

I’m sorry, but this video is fucking awesome…

After I stop laughing I’m going to watch it again.

The last thing I thought I’d ever see is the guys from Rammstein fucking chicks…doesn’t seem like their thing.

  • LD says:

It’s probably not even them fucking the girls. Flake’s head was digitally placed on a woman’s body and more than likely the other band member’s heads were placed on the bodies of other men. Sorry but that is not Till’s body. It’s very convincing though.

About the music, I’ve liked a lot of their songs in the past but this song just isn’t doing it for me.

  • Spinett says:

That actually does change thing a bit… While it was still possible to take them seriously before this video, from now on it is not. Also isn’t it stupid to sing one part in english, and then the same thing in german? This line was the best: “I can’t get laid in Germany” .

  • Spinett says:

Now to think of it, what was more ridiculous, the video, or the song itself?

  • Justin says:

Well, lets look here. Rammstein (like them musically or not) had an amazing stage show. Heck, any show where the singer comes out on stage ON FIRE is a good show in my book. However, Great White had to go and ruin all the fun as far as playing with fire in clubs go so Rammstein can never tour the US again. Perhaps now instead of having flaming arrows, drum sticks and guitars, they can just play Palladinos and fuck the shit outta Sasha Grey live?

  • Rory says:

They haven’t toured in North America since 2000 I think on the Family Values tour.

Even though most of what they do is a joke, I’d still drop everything to see them live.

And I totally agree that the band members weren’t fucking the chicks in these videos. They cut away really fast every time there was penetration…haha…so we couldn’t see the cut and paste.

  • Yes, huge points for a singer that arrives onstage on fire. That’s definitely something you can’t take away from them.

  • Rikd says:

Mission: New material finally and how to create a hype.
Solution: Controversial sex video for sex themed song.
Why: SEX SELLS= Media hype and $$$$$$!!!!!!

  • zoopster says:

Hahaha this does not surprise me in the least. Hilarious. Though I too didn’t think they were into girls……

  • Fernando says:

No shark to jump here. I think Rammstein have always been this bad. Also, the blond guy with glasses…has boobs.

  • trucks says:

If I’m ever able to tell if the naked body of a dude in a video is the band member or not I have taken my fandom way too far.

  • ZaXXoN says:

wtf was their supposed ” über-deutsch shtick?”

they are German. they sing in German. using your same skewed Skwerl “logic,” Pearl Jam use Uber-American shtick (ie- “Jeremy” video)

put down the bong and let the resin clear from your brain. they pushed the envelope. deal with it. you are just one of the many who cant get past not understanding the lyrics of a band using a different language. “song has a cool beat, but whats he saying?” you’re a typical fanboy

  • Skwerl says:

uhhh… i don’t smoke pot. but anyway, i’m not just talking about them singing in german. and i could understand the lyrics half the time, because they were never very complicated. i didn’t even need to look up the three word lyrics to “du hast mich.” by “über-deutsch” i mean they were fucking cartoon characters. to the extent of self parody. german like fucking boris and natasha. they looked and talked like the nihilist kidnappers in the big liebowski. extremely stereotypical. pushed the envelope? jesus, i hope you’re not serious. kraftwerk pushed the envelope. these guys just pushed their luck.
sorry if i insulted your favorite band dude. like i said, i dug their shit. still do dig the old shit actually. but if you can look me straight in the eye and say that this pussy song is a respectable musical accomplishment, pushing the limits of the art, or saying anything deep or meaningful, please don’t say it while i’m taking a sip of my über-american budweiser unless you want it all over your lederhosen.

  • BuddyGoodness says:

Yeah, song sucks and the video is pointless but I still like the band. They have done some amazing videos and Mutter was a fantastic album.

  • Tim says:

Take the picture down or do something to hide it please. It looks like she’s eating a fucking turd. That may have been the point but geez- its not shocking, nor is it memorable. It only makes me scroll past this article faster. The only reason I clicked on it was so I could write this post. Get it off!

  • zoopster says:

I like the picture. Please don’t remove it.
“kraftwerk pushed the envelope. these guys just pushed their luck.” lmao, skwerl. well said.

  • Boomershadow says:

I’m not above seeing a band having a stupid but quirky video to go along with a nonserious song. But it has to actually work, or be funny, or be controversial, or sexy, or something. This is none of those.

Still, it’s a joke, and I’m not gonna write off a band where I admittedly own and enjoy a couple albums just cuz I didn’t like the punchline.

  • woole says:

I don’t care if they want to be serious or not, i think that they just wanted to have fun and make something funny and as far as i am concerned they made it. Why to even talk about is something good or not?? It is better to talk about how much people liked something and how much didn’t. If u like something then enjoy it but if u don’t just simply don’t watch it and if u want to talk about it say how YOU didn’t like it but don’t say that it is a piece of crap kuz who are u to judge this… who are we to talk about them… they succeeded in things they have been doing and earned millions from it. Even this song, weather you like it or not, was heard by millions of people, and even if it was piece of shit it was success.

    p.s. – sorry for grammatical mistakes….

  • Ossie says:

The video is too explicit for my taste, specially the ending (all the band has endings), but the whole idea of both the video and the song I can understand. I would have actually liked this video a lot if it was less explicit. And btw the womans body is not digital, hes wearing latex prostetics, there’s photos of all the band wearing them in their official page and if you pause it you can clearly see it’s a suit.

  • Luna says:

So it’s okay when the band makes lyrics about cannibalism, necrophilia, incest, subjugation, references to hitlerism and album covers with fetuses, to name a few, but a porn video which is an obvious mockery is “pushing their luck”?

Taking Rammstein seriously? Are you FOR REAL?
You sir, either have no idea what you’re talking about, or are a hypocrite.

  • Skwerl says:

i’m going to go with hypocrite on this one. but no seriously, grow a brain. it’s not that the video is a porn video. it’s that it’s nothing more. they have tons of offensive songs that are good songs. pussy has nothing redeeming. it’s a bumper sticker.

  • woole says:

i am sure that they know it but they also know that they made boom with it and that in first week a rly large number of ppl saw it… i am sure that they know exactly what are they doing and that this song have purpose! i mean, everyone is talking about this song and video! most of people that liked them before will buy next album, and ppl that had no idea who are they until they saw a video, might get repelled or attracted to buy album, and if even only 1 of those ppl buy that album, rammstein achieved something

  • Steve says:

This video & song is in the same vein as Amerika and Stripped. Sung part in English & part in German. It’s not a terrible song, but I don’t believe it will be any more indicative of the album as a whole than Amerika was representative of Reise, Reise as a whole. You could look at Amerika and take it as a joke along with the video, but it was nothing like Mein Teil or Reise, Reise-two of Rammstein’s finest tracks IMO. The fact is the video is funny, has hot chicks and shows that Rammstein is back and having fun doing what they love to do. Oh, and Rosenrot had a joke track too. It was called Te Queiro Puta (sorry about the SP) which Till sang in Spanish.

  • jizzy says:

sorry guys but i’m actually more interested in the girls than the song. is that normal? =) Anyone can ID the girls?

  • immerohnegott says:

Looking at Rammstein’s past discography and a couple of interviews, they really, really, like to fuck with people. I’m sure they know the song is ridiculous, the video even more so. That’s the point.

They are using this batshit-insane concept to illustrate the underlying concept of a large amount of popular culture – sex is weaseled into ads, movies, tv, and pretty much every pop tune since the 90s. Modern culture is just “titties, titties, titties”.

It could be they’re just saying “Well, fuckheads, this is what you wanted, isn’t it?”.

They’re also playing around a bit with their own definitions of themselves. Flake is always getting fucked with (live “Bueck Dich” is the most literal example), so they take it even further and make him a tranny. I recall Oli having said “Domina? Ja, warum nicht?” (Domination? Yeah, why not?) when posed with the question of S&M’s value. So, he’s on the receiving end of a BDSM marathon.

The whole video is an exercise in their trademark serious silliness. Yes, it’s ostensibly deep-south crazy, but there’s a lot going on with it. Jesus shit that was a long rant. Apologies.

  • woole says:

“immerohnegott” i couldn’t agree more with you, finally somebody said something that have sense :D

  • TheMusicMechanic says:

I am shocked… not by the song but the evident idiocy of some of the ‘fans’ who are complaining. Either the fans have only been around since the ‘mutter’ album or they are too young or ignorent to pay attention to Rammsteins lyrics. This song is supposed to shock and piss people off. on the same single as ‘Pussy’ is the song ‘Rammlied’ in which if you translate the first verse says:

    “”Who waits with prudence,
is rewarded at the right time.
    Now the wait is over,
lend your ears to a legend.

    RAMM-STEIN!”"

It almost thanks you for not turning the record off whilst listening to ‘Pussy’. but anyway this isn’t my main point…

Rammstein have always been shocking, the best example is ‘Buch dich’ from the ‘Sehnsucht’ album, which has the following lyrics in it:

“bend over, your face doesnt interest me”

the song is about homosexual sex with a virgin! in another part it says

“because he’s scared im feeling worse, he tries to bend over even more, tears of sweat run off his back”

Also on their 1998 tour they did things like this on stage (please click link to see the photo):
    http://z1.foto.rambler.ru/public/adios19/2/1/1-web.jpg

And so all the shocked people…Why if you understand the band are you shocked!?

  • Bob says:

If you aren’t at least somewhat proficient in German and never bothered to look into the translation of the “three word” lyrics of “Du Hast” (not “Du Hast Mich”) then I’m betting you never got the joke in the first place.

  • L. says:

    It’s so….. German.

  • Azri says:

I’ve been a fan of Rammstein since I first heard Du Hast. I’ve love all their songs some more than others. Pussy was actually the 3rd song I heard and only after I found out they made a porno.
The band loves to fuck with boundaries. Yes Pussy isn’t one their better songs (lyrically and musically) but it’s fun. It’s like Amerika, it’s just a fun song. I loved Till and Doom, but Doom’s hair is a little odd. From a girl’s pt of view, I think the music video is funny. Only Rammstein could do a music video like this without it being considered odd. If that’s Till’s real body I’m more in love with him than I already was. I hope they come to America. If not I guess I’m going to be going to Germany in my near future.

  • Hypernation says:

Skwerl – “Du Hasst Mich” is perhaps an easy to understand phrase, but the song builds a pun out of it with “Du Hast Mich gefragt” (You asked me) – their lyrics certainly aren’t simple. The new track Haifisch uses the word “Halten” in something like 14 different senses.

I wouldn’t be tricked into thinking the music is simple just because of the Prussian, Teutonic beat.

PS: The song Pussy is by far their worst to date.

  • Schwarherz says:

Are you that stupid? 1. Du Hast was about much more than “You Have Me” It was a play on the German marraige vows. 2. uber-deutsch? seriously? you must think they’re nazis too huh? and 3. The song is good, in fact it’s fucking hillarious. You apparently saw the video first and got offended for some stupid reason. By the time I got to “Steck Bratwurst in dein Sauekraut” (Stick brautwurst in your sauerkraut for those of you who didn’t guess) I was laughing my fucking head off. Seriously, grow a sense of humor or *gasp* listen to something else.

  • AnaLoGMunKy says:

I was thinking the same as “immerohnegott” when he said sex is everywhere, and the band are just dishing it to the stupid people who will lap it up. Sure make money from idiots using sex, same as it ever was. Its all around you, yet some people act so shocked by this???
But its ok to sell childrens toys using little girls all doused in make up with barbies who are impossibly thin?
!Go back to bed world, your leaders are in control!

Yes this song is not their best but I get the feeling they made it to fuck with peoples heads, as has been said. I admire what they have done if they did it for the reasons I think they did it for, but I cant really listen to this past it being a joke. Its a joke… I mean shit, it really IS a joke.

And its not them, their heads are superimposed. Tho I wouldnt put it past em to get their knobs out… lol.

    And Im horney now.

  • MrCock says:

Forget the guys on the video… who are the girls?

  • Joe says:

You know those are body doubles right?

“The song was released with a controversial and sexually explicit video in which the band members, each portrayed by body-doubles, are seen having sex with women.”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pussy_(song)

  • [...] have put away the porno and themed dildo sets long enough to put a concept video together. Surprisingly, there’s no nudity. Even more [...]

  • Titaka says:

Dude… you people never get what Rammstein tries to do. They are not trying to come back with this video (They didn’t go anywhere), they don’t want more fame (the got enough). They mock the sexual culture of the world. They mock the fact that sex is everywhere in our lives today. Haven’t you listened to any other Rammstein song? What about the video for “Mann gegen mann” ? You probably think they’re gay. No one makes you listen to them. Go listen to your Justin Timberlake CD’s.

  • Chris says:

It is not the band members having sex. They are body doubles.
