Fight For Metal Upon The Crimson Dawn With Jack Black

By Fernando Scoczynski Filho

Brutal Legend is a rock n’ roll game, but it isn’t a Guitar Hero clone. It’s an action-oriented, hack n’ slash game where you control a roadie named Eddie Riggs with a regular controller. Riggs, voiced by Jack Black, kills enemies with axes (and guitars), jumps around, drives vehicles, and saves dansels in distress. Sounds pretty metal, right? There’s more…

The entire game is set in a fantasy world based on the artwork of heavy metal albums into which Riggs has been transported. In addition to that of Black, the game features the voices of Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford (playing two characters), Lita Ford, and Ozzy Osbourne. And their likenesses are all in the game, of course. Just take a look at Lemmy and his 3D mole:

That’s some metal ass shit right there. The mastermind behind this project is Tim Schafer, responsible for some of the funniest, greatest, best-written games in history, such as Grim Fandango, The Secret of Monkey Island, Psychonauts, and Full Throttle (which itself was a bit metal).

Brutal Legend is coming out for the XBox 360 and PS3 on October 13, 2009, or, as the development team at Double Fine calls it, “Rocktober 13th.” A bit of a shame for this PC gamer personally, seeing as all of Tim Shafer’s previous works were available for the PC.

Full Throttle was the shit. Hopefully this game will bring more of the same cool gameplay. Bummed its not on PC, though. That list of artists/songs is like an eighties metal kids’ wet dream. Too fucking cool.

  5. With Tim Schaffer’s name on this. It will be good.
    I have no doubt.
