Pearl Jam have scattered nine pieces of Backspacer album art that all over the internet today for an interesting little scavenger hunt. Head over to Pearl Jam’s official site and add the image to the set of nine snapshot spaces, and once you find them all, there’s a spicy little prize waiting at the end.
Backspacer’s artwork was produced by a friend of the band, political cartoonist Tom Tomorrow. “The artwork collaboration between Tom Tomorrow and the band for this album is so compelling, we felt like it deserved its own online gallery showcase,” said Tim Bierman, manager of Pearl Jam’s Ten Club and all-around kickass guy. The band’s ninth LP is due out September 20th.
Get your clicks on and your finds will be transported to a puzzle layout site, where the first Backspacer single The Fixer does it’s autoplay thing as you stare at nine empty slots, or however many you have left. It’s your job to to find what other websites are carrying the remainder of the artwork. When you’re finished jumping through all those hoops, you’ll win yourself a brand-spankin’-new… well, we won’t ruin the surprise, but we can get you started on your way. We did some of the homework for you, however, and found the nine artwork pieces (see below) – but you’re going to have to dig your own way through to the end of this rainbow.
Backspacer was produced by Brendan O’Brien, who’s back behind the boards for the band for the first time since 1998’s Yield. Most die-hard PJ dans credit O’Brien for pulling the very best out of the band (as evidenced by his work on their best albums, Yield, Vs. and No Code).
Click the pics to enlarge, of course.

Despite my temptations, I decided not to throw Muse under the comparative bus (a ridiculous goose-chase for a hypothetical, fictional UN scenario involving multiple continents and lots of drama for individual snippets of a song that sounds like a bad Queen ripoff), but the cat’s out of the bag now, eh?
