We just received some sad news from Beastie Boys member Adam “MCA” Yauch regarding his health and the status of the Beastie Boys new album and tour. Check out their video statement, released this morning:

A sobering update, to say the least. The Beastie Boys also issued the following statement earlier today:

“Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch of Beastie Boys was diagnosed last week as having a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland. Luckily it was caught early and is localized in one area, and as such is considered very treatable. It will however require surgery and several weeks of additional treatment. Fortunately the cancer is not in a location that will affect Yauch’s vocal chords. Beastie Boys have canceled all upcoming concert appearances to allow time for Yauch’s surgery and recovery. The release of the band’s forthcoming album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 will also be pushed back.

Paraphrasing from a video statement on www.Beastieboys.com, Yauch said, “I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then we’ll release the record and play some shows. It’s a pain in the neck (sorry, had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later.”

We send our love to Yauch, and hope he makes a full, speedy recovery.

very scary, but good to hear he’ll be ok

  • Yeah, fingers crossed for sure. I originally titled the piece simply ‘Fuck Cancer’ but changed it at the very last moment. Constantly tempted to change it back.

Well I kinda like the play on the “one in three” rule but really? fuck cancer, that blows, was planning on seeing them sometime soon. I saw tool this weekend (crazy, great show) and someone seriously mentioned bestie boys were coming to denver in august or september so I was gonna start looking for tix today and then this, hope he gets well soon. Was at work when I heard this and just thought it was so random. Feel better MCA :( glad you’ll eventually be ok and that he caught it so soon but yea, very scary.
