Arctic Desert Monkeys Cry Lightning

Today, Zane Lowe premiered the first single from the Arctic Monkeys’ forthcoming album, Humbug, on his BBC Radio 1 show. The track, entitled Crying Lightning, was greeted with great anticipation by all fans- and even some people who barely know their music- given the fact that at least some of the songs were co-produced by Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Joshua Homme at his studio in the Mojave Desert.
In an interview with Lowe, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner clarified that this track was indeed produced by Homme. Afterwards, Zane did his customary appreciation for the track, going into a bit of hyperbole, as usual.
While Crying Lightning doesn’t show in any obvious way the promised “Black Sabbath influence” that the band has mentioned in recent interviews, the track is definitely heavier and sharper than a lot of the Monkeys’ previous material. However the chorus remains distinctively and definitely Arctic Monkeys.
Humbug is set to hit shelves on August 25th. Further details on Homme’s contributions can be found here.

Good tune, love both AM and Josh H (QOTSA) glad too see them working together and I’ve been waiting patiently for this album to drop. Thanks for the listen!
There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though somethin’, somethin’, I dunno what
There’s no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
lol :) nice song, i like that it still sounds like arctic monkeys but I do hear something else new going on as well, album anticipation continues…
it sounds exactly as i thought it would. AM meets QOTSA. I quite like it.
