A few (give or take) of our favorite artists have contributed to Spin Magazine’s Purplish Rain, a tribute to Prince to complement their July cover story: An oral history of the movie Purple Rain, in honor of its 25th anniversary this year (fuck, now I really feel old.)
The most amazing item on the playlist is When Doves Cry, by The Twilight Singers, featuring… Wait for it… Apollonia. Yes, that Apollonia. The Twilight Singers, for those of you who don’t know, is a band fronted by Greg Dulli of the Afghan Whigs, who also fronts the very amazing and underrated Gutter Twins with Mark Lanegan.
And you can listen to that cut right here:
Also appearing on the tribute is Lavender Diamond, featuring Becky Stark, a co-star on The Decemberists’ very amazing Hazards Of Love.
And the coup de grĂ¢ce is Mariachi El Bronx- which is simply The Bronx, playing mariachi style- doing I Would Die For U.
Full tracklist and more details available here.

I fucking love Greg Dulli and everything that bitch has done in his life. Same goes for Mark Lanegan. Fucking love ‘em.
Wait, I cannot fathom it being so striaghtfoarwrd.
