News:  The Mars Volta

Something Martian This Way Comes

By Skwerl

One release we’re eagerly awaiting this year is The Mars Volta’s Octahedron, due out June 19th. As if Omar’s Cryptomnesia album wasn’t enough to hold us over, we’ve got the first single the new TMV album, entitled Cotopaxi.

The Mars Volta has never been known for mainstream radio friendly singles, and Cotopaxi is no exception. Undoubtedly part of a grander composition, the track immediately hits you like a steamroller at full speed, Cedric in mid-yell, band firing on all pistons.

This track is a slap right in the face of those heralding the death of the album and reign of the “hit;” Cotopaxi is anything but self-contained, just a brief, intoxicating peek at Octahedron. We can’t wait to get our paws on this one.

  1. Death of the album my ass. That breakdown is almighty, and by the sound of it Octahedron is going to kick all the top-ranking albums of 2009 down a notch or two. Foaming for this one.

sounds fucking awesome. They put on a helluva show @ the Dodge theatre last year, seems like they’re getting the fire back after seeming a little complacent.

  3. Rory says:

    Meh sounds OK.

The haven’t lacked the same whollop in their albums since Frances the Mute. The albums are still good, I just think they are spitting them out too quickly for the songs to be as epic as they once were.

I swear you guys get affiliate money every time you post about something/someone related to the Mars Volta.
