Ghost Hunting With Morello & Springsteen
By Johnny Firecloud
Thursday, April 16, 2009
While the rest of us were stabbing our way through the line at the post office last night, hoping to get our taxes in before deadline, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Morello were tearing Los Angeles a new asshole together. The Boss was in town playing an apparently amazing show, and he brought the Nightwatchmen / Street Sweeper shredder onstage to do what he does best during The Ghost Of Tom Joad.
This isn’t the first time Morello’s played this song with the Boss, but it’s without a doubt the most passionate performance I’ve seen from him- on any song, ever. The solo is utterly phenomenal. Maybe not from a technical point of view (do you really want to try preaching technicalities with the man?), but the raw heart coming through Morello, as Bruce is trying to count his way back in, is untouchable.
Watch his shit-grinning glee around the 1:00 mark, right before The highway is alive tonight…
When our heroes get to meet their heroes- and play with them onstage in front of us no less- a certain magic tends to unfold. That magic can clearly be seen here.

I thought you were setting me up for serious disappointment, but that was not the case.
nice
Precisely how I felt when I first saw it.
ok, was going to tell you that we already posted a (better) video of bruce and tom doing this song together, but what the hell. ha.
history books, mcscrooge! i enjoyed this much more.
ditto, I thought Morello was much more into it this time
Morello pushed guitar playing forward, no doubt. He played his ass off in this one.
I’m just finding out that he’s part of Street Sweeper Social Club, the other band on the NIN/JA Tour.
