Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has been in a coma since an accident in Santa Barbara nearly five months ago. It has come to our attention that his family’s insurance company has cut off coverage, leaving them to solicit donations from his fans to cover mounting medical costs. The fact that money may determine whether this talented artist will recover or not is a sobering, heartbreaking thing to confront, as a music fan and as a citizen.
I grew up with the Deftones. As each of countless new rip-off nü-metal bands appeared before me, I shrugged them away- Noone did it like the Deftones. And while most of those wannabes are still recycling the same old bullshit, the Deftones have been pushing their creativity, ever since their breakthrough, category-defying White Pony in 2000.
I just donated some cash to Chi’s fund at oneloveforchi.com. We hope you can too.
