Weekend Headlines: Strokes Jerkoff, RHCP Runners-Up, Disturbing Lips & More

Flea

Apparently Red Hot Chili Peppers are the chubby snaggle-tooth girl with halitosis you ask to the prom at the last minute because everyone else said no. At least that’s what happened with Coachella‘s headliner negotiations. [NME]

Pearl Jam is touring South America this year [PJ]

Free sexjuice for whoever can name the arresting officer in Soundgarden‘s new Grohl-directed video [AQ]

Iggy And The Stooges have just finished recording their new album [NME]

Sending The Mars Volta off in style with five must-see live videos of the band [AQ]

This week’s Bootleg Roundup features sick performances from Sleigh Bells, Every Time I Die, Childish Gambino and more. [AQ]

While we’re in the bootleg zone, check out Down‘s entire Jan. 18 performance in Anaheim. [Blabbermouth]

Kanye seems to have shelved that Cruel Winter album for a new solo record (a shame, really. The world could’ve really used a sequel to that shiteous Cruel Summer mess). Can’t wait for the Kardashian cameo. [SKOA]

The new song from The Strokes sounds like Julian’s got a dominatrix sticking needles in his balls while his bandmates engage in a bit of the old ‘let’s make this sound as bad as possible’. Alternate title: The Strokes Jack Off Badly. [AQ]

Stream the new Hatebreed album, The Divinity Of Purpose [AQ]

Details on the new Flaming Lips album – “bleak” and “disturbing” sounds like fun, no? [AQ]

A new Noel Gallagher song called Oh Lord has leaked. [AQ]

Fall-Out Boy is reuniting. They’re responsible for this, so I’m fine with it. [Spinner]

Two Black Flag reunions in the same week, and Henry Rollins has nothing to do with either one. [Spin]

Listen to the new Tegan & Sara album Heartthrob. If you’re into that kind of thing. [AQ]

Prince makes fun of Maroon 5 [NME]

If you do this at shows, you’re a complete asshole [AQFB]

We’ll close it out with a sick little grammar-lesson flashback from Mac Lethal:

i feel like everyone’s reading the rhcp coachella story all wrong.
my take is that coachella wanted rhcp all along, but cliff played hardball on the deal, betting that coachella wouldn’t be able to close the stones. when he turned out to be right, coachella finally took the deal. now, a lot of that is pure speculation on my part, but i’m nearly certain goldenvoice didn’t call rhcp suddenly out of nowhere in some mad scramble.

    • I’d say they were a safety net that needed to be used. I’m sure Cliff played all sorts of games, but in the end they’re the 2nd string that had to play the super bowl. Aint a bad second string in my book – it’s just a weird season for them to be headlining.

I don’t get why it is a weird season? They were able to play two proper arena shows in their home town, now one of the greatest So Cal acts of all time can close out the premiere music festival in their home state. I called this a few weeks back on Twitter, seemed logical all along to me.
