Spotify Unveils Top Ten Streamed Songs of 2012

Gotye, Music

The increasingly popular music streaming serviceĀ Spotify, which finally hit the US in mid 2011, has just released its list of the most streamed tracks of 2012. Unsurprisingly, it features a whole bunch of the chart-topping songs you’d expect to see anyway, and is topped by a track that actually came out in 2011 – which means it was streamed all year long, to its favor.

The list is as follows:

10. Nicki Minaj – “Starships”
9. The Wanted – “Glad You Came”
8. M83 – “Midnight City”
7. Flo Rida featuring Sia – “Wild Ones”
6. One Direction – “What Makes You Beautiful”
5. Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa – “Payphone”
4. Fun. – “Some Nights”
3. Carly Rae Jepsen – “Call Me Maybe”
2. Fun. featuring Janelle Monae – “We Are Young”
1. Gotye featuring Kimbra – “Somebody That I Used To Know”

Whether all of that amounts to pennies for the artist or a fair amount of money over a long time still remains to be seen.

Check out our in-depth comparison of several music streaming services, including Spotify, Rdio, Google Music & others, here.

Meanwhile, On The Internet...

  1. Well, I’m just happy to see that “Midnight City” made the list.

  2. Geoffrey Estremera says:

Minaj’s second album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (2012) topped charts internationally; it became one of the best-selling albums of that year and sold one million copies worldwide.’.^*
