Now that we’ve got 4/20 out of the way…

A few weeks back, we had the pleasure of hanging out with all female “supercovergroup” Chelsea Girls at The Roxy. If you haven’t heard of them, think Metal Skool / Steel Panther, but better, and way easier to look at.

Tuesdae, Chelsea Girls

The band is comprised of Tuesdae, a Playboy model with pipes at least as impressive as her rack, Corey Parks of Nashville Pussy on bass & vocals, Allison Robertson of The Donnas on guitar, and the one and only Samantha Maloney on drums, who has backed Hole, Mötley Crue, The Eagles Of Death Metal, Peaches, and several other bands almost as awesome as Titanica.

The girls fielded Antiquiet Correspondent Ali On The Air’s questions about how the band came together, the first songs they rocked out to in the bathroom mirror, and the downsides of being hot. Names dropped include Phil Collins, Mariah Carey, Barbara Streisand, and Brad Pitt (I hear he’s a douche).

I’ve said before that I’m generally not a fan of novelty bands, but I make exceptions when there’s this kind of talent involved, and this kind of fun. We filmed their set that night, a special one featuring guests Lemmy Kilmister, Steven Pearcy of Ratt, Carlos Cavazo of Quiet Riot, and honorary fifth member Carmen Electra as band emcee / backup dancer.

We’ve uploaded a few HD video clips to our Vimeo and YouTube pages (featuring soundboard audio, courtesy of the girls), including their cover of Heart’s Barracuda with Carmen’s intro, and Eddie Cochran’s Somethin’ Else featuring Carmen and Lemmy. A personal highlight for us, however, was this cover of Quiet Riot’s Bang Your Head, with Carlos Cavazo:

Chelsea Girls will be playing shows in Chicago on May 1st and 2nd (check out their MySpace for more info) before returning to The Roxy for their monthly performance, a tradition demanded by Roxy owner Nic Adler. We hear they’re working on an very special lineup of special guests. We’ll be there.

P.S. Here’s a great shot of Carmen Electra’s cleavage.

More photos from The Roxy show can be found on Antiquiet’s Facebook Page. Become a fan to get free tickets to shows all over the country.

That was cool. Being a hot chick and having talent and playing kickass rock and roll shouldn’t be mutually exclusive, but sometimes it’s still surprising when you see it. Looks like they’re doing a fine job. Done their schoolwork on the songs and come across as pretty serious about what they’re doing. Tuesdae is a great singer. Not too many can pull off an Ann Wilson vocal. Her a capella Streisand song was great, too!
Samantha Maloney is an awesome drummer. She blew me away when I saw her tour w/crue. I’d definitely like to see them next time they play. I must admit that was one of the weirdest versions of “Somethin’ Else” I’ve ever heard, though. Always great to see Lemmy.
Nice to see Carlos Cavazo still out there and that he still has his chops. He is also a very down to earth guy. Last time I saw QRiot play at the Roxy, shortly before the show, he came walking up the street to the gig with his guitar slung over his shoulder, while the rest of the band was arriving in limos and such. I guess he lives somewhere close to the Strip. I always thought that was cool, walking to the gig on the Strip, like it’s his backyard. Anyway, He stopped for a few minutes and talked to my buddy and I outside on the street. It was very cool of him to do that and I’ll never forget it. What else can be said about Ms. Electra? Still lookin mighty good…..

zoop. Find Me.. you know who I am..

  • zoopster says:

I admit I’m curious, but not sure if I do know you. Having trouble trying to find you.(firewall issues)Can I get a clue? :)

  • I’ve finally come around with these girls. They kinda kick ass. And Zoop – it’s Miss Yucaipa. She’s not very good with communique unless there’s danger involved.

  • zoopster says:

Yes, Miss Yucaipa indeed. I finally figured it out last night and then had it confirmed by her. She’s a tricksy one………gotta love her :)

I forgot to remark on Allison Robertsons mean ass guitar playing, she rocks. Chelsea Girls should write some original songs, too. I bet they would kick ass.

I’ve always been on the fence about the Donnas, with the exception of Allison and the drummer, Torrey, both of whom definitely impressed me with their playing. I wouldn’t mind them doing something a bit more serious with another vocalist and bassist, maybe, lose the bubblegum image. We know they can rock, now write some meaningful songs.

  • Skwerl says:

since i generally don’t care whether a song is meaningful or not, i’ve always loved the donnas.

  • zoopster says:

Meaningful is not absolutely necessary, but it would be an interesting change. To be honest, meaningful can be interpreted in many ways, I guess. Maybe I’m being too picky. Not everyone can be Tool.

  • Pasita says:

    Love them, amazing!

  • Christy says:

Love these girls. They’re badass and play just as good as the original bands they cover! I also had the pleasure of watching and interviewing them at Club Nokia this past month. Check it out: http://www.disarraymagazine.com/2009/10/chelsea-girls-playing-best-songs-they.html
