About Johnny Firecloud

Johnny Firecloud is Antiquiet's resident hippie liberal, but he doesn't smell at all like patchouli. A music-obsessed Michigan native, Johnny makes his living in the gleaming cesspool that is Los Angeles. He's currently attempting to write his first novel, and surprisingly, it's not about political hypocrisy or judicial injustice. But he does love a good soapbox.

    wow.

  2. Skwerl Says:

the second half is funny. first half is grueling. silly hippie propaganda either way.

  3. dlr Says:

Talk about stereo-types and scare tactics! I agree with skwerl (did I just write that?)>

  4. darkmethod Says:

not that its not definitely propoganda, but if you replace republican wih neocon, its just funny

  5. Johnny Firecloud Says:

any particular factual argument behind the “silly hippie propaganda” claim?

  6. Skwerl Says:

how can i have a factual argument to sarcastic satire? i’m not going to sit here and explain why people who vote republican do not in fact do so because they believe women “can’t be trusted to make decisions about their own bodies, never ever ever.” that’s not the case against abortion. the case against abortion is that it’s killing babies. that’s the right wing propaganda. the left wing propaganda is that it’s a woman’s body and it’s her decision. so if a video came out where a fake liberal was sitting there saying “i’m voting democrat because i think it’s totally ok to kill babies, anytime you damn well please,” you’d call it bullshit right wing propaganda and you probably wouldn’t post it here except possibly to make fun of it.

but the last half was pretty fucking funny.
“we need more minorities in prison”
    “because hybrid cars really suck”
    etc…

it’s not a matter of providing factual argument to sarcastic satire, it’s about justifying calling it “hippie propaganda.” sure it’s over the top, that’s what makes it funny and ultimately why it’s even posted here. but the fundamental threat of the removal of choice from women’s bodies, health care, gay marriage, responsible product labeling, aggressive pursuit of mainstream alternative fuel options, prescription medication and so on is as poignant and pivotal as ever these days. this video outlines (in caricature form) the ridiculous extent of power over the people, over the options of the people that the existing ruling party has every intention of maintaining with the election of McCain.

  8. Skwerl Says:

    yeah aight.
but i say again, it’s not about the removal of choice. it’s about killing babies. the right of a woman to get an abortion is seen as a right to kill a child in a lot of people’s eyes. i don’t agree with it, but i see where they’re coming from.
the video is funny, and welcome here. stuff like this is political junk food. but we’ll never cover politics as responsibly and thoroughly as a respectable media outlet should. so we might as well have some fun with it and make a few dick jokes here and there.

    This video is just awesome.
