[...] Antiquiet also has a great bio on Spector if there was any question left in your mind as to how disturbed he was. [...]

Wow. I thought I knew a bit about him, but some of that info was new to me. Thanks. I didn't know about the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame thing. I gotta look that video up. And the title of his first hit being his dad's epitaph? Way fucking creepy.
I like Leonard Cohen's (who Phil also pulled a gun on)quote on Phil, on why Phil felt the need to "annihilate" him during thier recording project: "I don't think he can tolerate any other shadows in his darkness." That says alot.
His "wall of sound" recordings are still amazing to hear, especially on vinyl, and continue to inspire and influence music to this day. He absolutely is a "crucial piece of the tapestry of music history." Very well said.

It's a fine line between genius and madness, and this is a sad case. I have to respect him for what he contributed to music, but am, of course, appalled by his behavior. Tragic all the way around, especially for his victim.
It's amazing it took this long for him to get in serious trouble, considering how long he has behaved like this. Not to defend him, but I would guess getting beaten up and pissed on by four guys is pretty traumatic, though.

Interesting side note: the story of Carol Kaye and the amazing studio musicians who, with her, formed the "Wrecking Crew", a group who played on many famous recordings, is a great one, and worth looking into. Yet another thread woven surreptitiously through the Rock tapestry....
