Adorata Gemelli Della Grondaia

I discovered The Gutter Twins’ debut LP Saturnalia a month or two too late to give it a formal jerking off here, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a relatively substantial eight song EP hit shelves out of nowhere on Tuesday. Saturnalia is one of the best, most overlooked albums of the year so far, and this new one, Adorata, is close behind.

The disc starts off slow with the pretty, droning, downtempo track Belles, written by a band I’ve never heard of before called Vetiver. It’s a track I really don’t need at this point in time; if I need help going to sleep, I can just as easily start a conversation about the presidential election.

The United States Of America Vs. Me

September 2nd, 2008 by Skwerl in Editorials

Hi everyone. As you are all undoubtedly aware, I was arrested at gunpoint last Wednesday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and I am now facing a federal criminal charge by the United States Government of copyright infringement, after allegedly hosting a stream of 9 Guns N’ Roses songs, for a brief period of time in June.

As a result, many old friends, new enemies, creepy strangers and reporters have been cramping my style; Asking questions, offering to help, threatening to injure / kill me, wishing me luck, wishing that I rot in jail for the rest of my life, hiding in my bushes, et cetera.

The Distillers’ Punk Rock Swan Song

August 31st, 2008 by Skwerl in Retro Reviews

I have a problem. It’s an ugly habit that is destroying my life. When everyone else hates an album I love, a syndrome kicks in- its severity proportionate my peers’ collective hatred for said album- and I find myself compulsively determined to convince everyone that they’re wrong, that they just need to give it a truly objective chance.

Forgive me, but I am unable to stop loving The Distillers’ 2003 album Coral Fang.

Any Lawyers Out There?

August 25th, 2008 by Skwerl in Editorials

So remember when we let you guys listen to some (allegedly, ha) new Guns N’ Roses songs we got our hands on? Well… Either way, the FBI sure does. They’ve been investigating, collecting information, and talking to me about that event ever since. More and more each day, it looks like I may be indicted. Pardon the self-indulgent post, and I may just be tripping, but just in case… If there are any lawyers out there horny for some high-profile copyright law battle, drop us a line.

Rock Over London, Rock On Wesley Willis

August 21st, 2008 by Skwerl in Features

Five years ago today, Wesley Willis died. Hopefully we won’t be the only music site to note the occasion and pay our respect, but I imagine elsewhere he will be recognized as some sort of schizophrenic-savant musical genius.

We prefer to remember Wesley Willis as one of the most passionate and dedicated music fans ever to walk the earth. It’s that rare class of devotion, and not his mad skillz with Technics sample melodies, that make him one of our heroes here at Antiquiet.
